Following a petition submitted by our office to the Israeli High Court of Justice, the court had decided to freeze the work of a government committee formed to investigate Israeli police's Internal Affairs Unit.

On behalf of an NGO called the Israeli Democracy Guard (“Mishmar Hademocratiya”) our office filed a petition claiming the decision by the Israeli government to form the committee was against the legal opinion of the attorney general who also functions as the legal counsel to the government.

In our petition, we expressed concern that the formation of the committee was politically motivated and related to the upcoming elections.

On February 24th, 2020 the High Court of Justice decided to temporary freeze the work of the committee while giving the Israeli Government 60 days to explain why the committee should not be disbanded.
